In this study, rice hulls were added to the pulp making from 0% to 100% by weight. As the rice hull content increased, the tensile and compression strengths of the paperboard decreased linearly at the rate of about 1% strength reduction per 1% of added rice hulls, as shown in the equations below: Tension Strength of Paperboard as Percentage of No Rice Hull Strength = -0.96*(% Rice Hull by Weight) + 100 Compression Strength of Paperboard as Percentage of No Rice Hull Strength = -0.97*(% Rice Hull by Weight) + 100 The strength reduction was due to the shorter fiber length of rice hulls than those of hardwood and softwood and the insufficient bonding among the rice hull fibers. Paperboard that was made of 100% rice hulls crumbled due to insufficient bonding. This study shows that it is possible to add rice hulls to paperboard ingredients. This will reduce the use of fibers from trees. Keywords Paperboard; Papermaking; Rice Hulls UR - https://iestoc.org/index.php/conference/article/view?path=
